WrittenFirst is a new website dedicated to well-thought-out writing of any kind.
Nick Guay, the founder, has created a place to publish and criticize things that he and his friends have written. We aren't interested in creating the contemporary definition of "content" because that would mean grinding out entertainment as quickly as possible to garner an audience as wide as possible. The problem with seeking the largest possible audience is the endless conflicting points of view, which beg for things to be generic.
We are students of a writing program at Humber College in Toronto. All we want to do is write to the best of our ability and see if anyone is willing to take us seriously. We don't want to churn out "content" every waking minute of the day and we don't want to dance on TikTok, we just want to write.
We want to be writers and writers need to practice reading, writing and imagination. So this is our plan:
We're going to try to be as consistent as possible but we are students and nothing can get in the way of our grades. We're going to publish things that we think are good but might be bad. We're also going to submit our written works to legitimate publications so each piece will be subject to removal at any time. We aren't aiming to entertain a wide range of people, we're simply looking to know the experience of having something published and the consequences of that. We are also looking to share the knowledge we gain with other students.
If you are an aspiring writer and wish to share something you've learned, or publish something you've written, we will consider all submissions.
But again, we're students so there might not be any activity on this site for weeks at a time.
Be patient with us.
